SERVICE WORLD
(2005 – 2011

Observation: Hand painted signs, buckets and sponges appeared. A flag was installed over the entrance – and the first cars were being washed. A group of migrant workers found a niche – they made use of an idle location in the centre of the metropolis London and changed it in a short period of time into a workplace.

This series captures car-wash workers in cities such as Berlin, Sao Paulo, London, Belgrade, and Rio de Janeiro, noting the geographical pecularities alongside the uncanny homogeneity of this make-shift service industry. Everyday practices are symbolically charged and often part of a bigger, cultural often global framework of references.
